FAQ

How do KANOMAX Anemometers measure air velocity?

Our anemometers are hot-wire (thermal) anemometers. Basically, it measures the air speed by calculating how fast the sensor is being cooled by the air.

Aren't all Hot-Wire Anemometers the same? Why should I buy your product?

The principles behind all hot-wire anemometers may be the same, but the quality varies. Simply put, with our temperature compensation sensor, our Climomaster is the most accurate with an accuracy of +/- 2%. This is due to several factors:

  1. 1) We calibrate the temperature compensation sensor, as well as the velocity sensor. Other manufacturers only calibrate the velocity sensor.
  2. 2) We use special high-quality materials, like our platinum sensors, that increase accuracy.
  3. 3) Our manufacturing facility uses not 1, but 4 specialized wind tunnels to test and calibrate our anemometers. These wind tunnels include a low velocity tunnel, high tunnel velocity and a variable temperature wind tunnel.
  4. 4) We’ve been making anemometers for over 60 years. During that time we’ve perfected our knowledge and refined our manufacturing process to produce a research-grade instrument.
How often does the unit nees to be calibrated?

Annual calibration is recommended to ensure accuracy. However, this can vary based on how often the anemometer is used and the environments it’s used in. Also, some companies have an SOP in place that specifies how often the instrument will need to be serviced. More specifically, regulatory compliances may dictate the calibration interval.

What kind of airflow can I measure with my Kanomax Anemometer?

You can measure clean air between -4 and 158°F (-20 to 70°C) in an environment with no visible condensation. (Please note: the temperature range given is for the probes)

Can I measure airflow in in flammable or corrosive gates?

No, these are thermal anemometers that generate heat when in operation; if you expose them to a flammable gas it could cause a fire or explosion. Corrosive or caustic gases, such a chlorine, will damage the sensor on contact. While it is possible to use the instrument in a non-flammable, non-caustic gases the instrument is not calibrated for these gases and it will not measure airflow accurately.

I have challenging application, how can I be sure a Kanomax Anemometer will work?
